How to Use the Material:

Comic, Conversation, Read, Game, PPT, Video Bundle-An Original by ESL Fun Class

Description:

The bundle contains a 4-page comic strip with the main worksheet, a 36-card order game, a full-page conversation transcript with the main worksheet, an order the conversation game, a conversation comic PowerPoint presentation, a reading booklet with a photo and comprehension worksheet and a draw-write worksheet, and a full color video of the conversation. All of the activities include a cover page or slides with the photos of the conversation setting and characters and an answer key.

The comic strip contains four pages of interchanges between multiple characters. The conversation worksheet has a full-page transcript with numbered exchanges between multiple characters.

The main worksheet that comes with the comic strip and the conversation worksheet has 5 pictures to define, 5 multiple choice questions, 5 fill in the blank sentences, and 5 correct or incorrect statements.

The conversation order card set includes a total of 36 cards that have the correct answers printed on the back.

The conversation comic presentation has between 20 and 24-character exchanges (depending on the topic) spread over 7 to eight slides. It also has 5 pictures to define, 5 multiple choice questions, 5 fill in the blank sentences, and 5 correct or incorrect statements. The answer key is on the last slide.

The reading booklet is filled with colorful photos and storylines. It has two worksheets. One has four spaces for students to draw pictures and lines underneath for them to write their own short stories. The second worksheet has 5 pictures to define and 10 comprehension questions.

The video brings all of the above resources to life! It is between 2:30 and 4:00 in length (depending on the topic) and is appropriate for any age group. It has an “srt” file so you can turn the subtitles on or off.

You can upload the PDF files to your platform for homework. Make sure your students both have and know how to use a PDF editing program. You can also make the resources interactive by converting them into documents Google Docs, making boxes for the fill in the blank lines or other questions, and then share the resources with them.

All of the resources are great to reinforce curriculum topics, to fill in extra time or to give to substitute teachers.

We use many of the same target words and phrases on all of the resources created for one topic. This is done intentionally to reinforce the basic vocabulary and grammar structures for each topic. Descriptions:

Sinking Ships:

Sinking Ships is a game for two players.   Players try to guess the location of five ships their opponent has hidden on a grid. The goal is to sink all of your opponent's ships by correctly guessing their location. If a student "hits" an opponent's ship, their opponent must use the target language to perform the tasks on the spaces that they land on, whether it be answering a question or fill in the missing word.   

Board Game:

Students will roll the die and move the number of spaces rolled. They will use the target language to perform the tasks on the spaces that they land on, whether it be answering a question or fill in the missing word. The student that reaches the finish square first or is closest to it when time is up wins!

Card Game:

Students are dealt cards. Students will use the target language to perform the tasks on those cards, whether it be answering a question or fill in the missing word. If students are correct, they must put the card face down in front of them and wait for their next turn. If students are incorrect they must put the card back in their playing stack and use the card again on a future turn. The student that has all of their cards face down in front of them first Wins!

Checkers Game:

Play checkers with two people and a board consisting of 64 squares. The board alternates between 32 red and 32 black squares. Students will take turn moving across the board. A player wins the game when the opponent cannot make a move. With all checkerboard moves, students will use the target language to perform the tasks on the spaces they land on, whether it be answering a question or fill in the missing word.

Slides and Stairs Game:

You play slides and stairs like a regular board game except students begin at the bottom of the game and move upwards. If a student lands on a space with stairs they may climb up to the space where the stairs ends. If they land on a slide they must slide down to the space where the slide ends. As students move around the board they will use the target language to perform the tasks on the spaces they land on, whether it be answer a question or fill in the missing word.

1.  Alphabetical Order Worksheet

Description:

This is a one-page alphabetical order worksheet.  Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five lines containing four words.  Students will circle the word in each line that comes first in the alphabet.

2.  Crossword Puzzle Worksheet

Description:

Each puzzle has thirty-five target words or phrases to fill in along with clues in the form of statements or questions and a word bank.  Students will use the across and down clues and the word bank to write the target words or phrases in a numbered grid.

3.  Decoder Box Worksheet

Description:

Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five words written in code, a decoding box, sentence clues, a word bank and an answer key.  Students will use words written in code, hints in the decoder, sentence clues and words in the word bank to help break the code.  The letters in the top portion of the box will be the correct letters and the letters in the bottom portion are the code.  Once the code is cracked for each letter students can write the correct words on the lines provided next to the code words.

4.  Decoder Ring Worksheet

Description:

Each worksheet has thirty scrambled words, a scrambled word decoder, sentence clues, and a word bank.  Students will look at the word bank and use the words to fill in the missing words or answer the questions in the sentence clues.  The missing words or answers are the target words found in the word bank and are used to unscramble with the decoder.  Students will use the decoder ring to crack the scramble code and then write each unscrambled word on the line beside the scrambled code word.  The letters in each word have been shifted clockwise a specific number of spaces on the decoder ring.  The secret code is different for each word.

5.  Fill In The Blank Exam

Description:

This is a one-page fill in the blank exam.  Each exam has a total of thirty-five sentences that have a missing word or phrase.  Students will read sentences and fill in the missing words or phrases.  Each exam comes with an answer key, answer sheet and answer sheet key.

6.  Jumbled Words Worksheet

Description:

Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five jumbled words or phrases, sentence clues with the jumbled words or phrases missing or a question about the missing word or phrase and an answer key.  Students will look at the sentence clues and fill in the missing words or phrases in the sentences or answer the question with a word or a phrase.  The words or phrases become the target words or phrases to be un-jumbled.  Students must figure out what the words are and write them on the blank lines provided.

7.  Magic Square

Description:

Each worksheet is 1 page.  Each worksheet has a total of sixteen numbered clues that students must match with the target words and a word bank.  Students will look at the word bank and use the words to fill in the missing words in the sentence clues or answer the questions.  After they have done this they will match the words with the numbered clues.  After making a match, students will write the number of the correct clue in the square that is marked by the letter of the matching word.  If the words and clues are matched correctly, the magic square columns, rows, and diagonals will add up to the same number.

8.  Missing Letters

Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five words with missing letters, sentence clues, and an answer key.  Students will fill in the missing words or answer the questions in the sentence clues.  The missing words or answers to the questions become the target words or phrases that are used to fill in the missing letters.  Students must figure out what the missing letters are and write them on the blank lines provided.  Students can then write the entire word or phrase on the larger blank line.

Description:

Each worksheet is two pages and has thirty-five sentences with a word missing plus a word bank at the bottom of the second page.  Students will look at the word bank and use the words to fill in the missing word in the sentences on the lines provided.

10.  Matching Exam

Description:

This is a two-page matching exam.  Each exam has two matching exercises for a total of thirty-five words or phrases and sentences to match.  Each exam comes with an answer key, answer sheet and answer sheet key.  Students will match sentences on the left side of the page with the word or phrase on the right side.

11.  Matching Worksheet

Description:

This is a 2-page matching worksheet.  Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five vocabulary words or phrases and sentence clues.  Students will use the vocabulary list and clues.  They must match the vocabulary with the clues.

12.  Multiple Choice Exam

Description:

Each exam has a total of thirty-five questions or statements with a missing word or phrase and three possible answers to each question or statement.  Students must choose the correct answer option.  Each exam comes with an answer key, answer sheet and answer sheet key.

13.  Multiple Choice Worksheet

Description:

This is a two-page multiple choice worksheet.  Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five statements with a word or phrase missing or questions and four possible answers.  Students will choose the best option under each sentence that answers the question or fills in the missing word.

14.  Scrambled Sentences Worksheet

Description:

This is a two-page scrambled sentences worksheet.  The words in each sentence have been scrambled.  Students will re-write the words of each sentence in the correct order.

15.  Sentence Match Worksheet

Description:

This is a two-page sentence match worksheet.  Each worksheet has a total of thirty-five sentences split into two parts.  Students will match sentence halves on the worksheet to complete the statements.

16.  Study Worksheet

Description:

This is a one-page study sheet.  Each study sheet has a total of thirty-five statements or questions with the missing words or answers to study.  The study sheets have a list of words on the left and either sentences with a missing word or questions on the right.  Students can use them to memorize the target vocabulary or to study for one of the exams.

17.  True False or Correct or Incorrect Exam

Description:

This is a two-page true-false or correct or incorrect exam.  Each exam has a total of thirty-five statements that need to be identified as correct or incorrect.  If a statement is incorrect or false the student must write the correction next to the “incorrect” option on the exam.  Each exam comes with an answer key, answer sheet and answer sheet key

18.  Wacky Trails Worksheet

Description:

Each worksheet has a total of 35 words or phrases, a puzzle grid, sentence clues with the missing words or phrases or a question about the topic and an answer key.  Students will fill in the missing words or phrases in the sentence clues or answer the questions.  The missing words or phrases become the target words or phrases to be found on the grid.  Each word or phrase has a start bubble.  Students must figure out where the words or phrases are and connect the trail of letters for each word or phrase.  The trails can wander up, down, left, right or diagonally.

19.  Word Links Worksheet

Description:

Each worksheet has a total of 35 words or phrases split into two halves, sentence clues with the missing target words or phrases or questions to be answered about the topic and an answer key.  Students will fill in the missing words or answer the questions in the sentence clues.  The missing words or answers becomes the target words or phrases to be joined.  The first part of the word or phrase is on the left-hand side of the worksheet and the second part is listed on the right somewhere.  When students make a match, they can draw a line between the two halves or write the number of the beginning of the word or phrase next to the end.  Finally,

students can write the completed words or phrases on the blank lines provided.

20.  Word Search Worksheet

Description:

This is a two-page word search worksheet.  Each worksheet has thirty-five target words or phrases to find on a grid along with clues in the form of statements or questions and a word bank.  Students will use the clues and the word bank to find and circle the target words or phrases on a letter grid.
